STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford went 20-1 to win the McIntyre Team Race last weekend in front of a home crowd at the Stanford Rowing and Sailing Center.
The Cardinal topped the 10-team field by posting an 8-1 mark in round one while going 9-0 and 3-0, in the next two rounds. Hawaii (15-6) was second and Washington (13-8) placed third.
Stanford tandems included Sarah Mace and Katie Riklin, Yuki Yoshiyasu and Michelle Catania, Molly McKinney and Natalie Urban, Noelle Herring, and Antoine Screve and Samantha Steele.
The event was named for former Stanford sailor and friend Jeremy McIntyre ('94), who passed away in 1999.
McIntyre represented Stanford on the race course for many years, leading the team to a fifth-place finish at the 1994 ICYRA Dinghy Championships and earned ICYRA All-American honors.
McIntyre challenged the Olympic ranks and campaigned a 470 for the 1996 Olympic Games. After finishing his graduate degree in environmental studies at Washington, McIntyre settled in Seattle while making occasional appearances in Tasar and 49er fleet racing.
In honor of McIntyre's deep commitment to environmental issues, a natural redwood plaque was created to become the perpetual trophy for this event.
