PING/ASU Invitational Round 1 Results
TEMPE, Ariz.- Stanford checks in ninth overall through the first round of the PING/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course, carding a one-over-par 289.
The Cardinal, which has won three of its first four spring tournaments overall, is part of a stacked field that includes six of the nation's top-10 programs.
Leading the way is Mariah Stackhouse, who posted a two-under-par 70 and is tied for 11th. Through eleven holes, the freshman led the tournament at four under. Two late bogeys, however, pushed her back by two shots. Stackhouse only trails the leader by three strokes.
UCLA, the three-time defending PING/ASU Invitational champions, leads the tournament at 279, 10 strokes ahead of the Cardinal.
"The course was in terrific condition and the weather was perfect for low scoring," said Anne Walker, Stanford's Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf. "Tomorrow we have to execute the same game plan as today but use our course knowledge from today to benefit us."
Freshman Lauren Kim tallied a 72, coming away with four birdies overall on the afternoon. Fresh off her title at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational, senior Sally Watson is also tied with Kim at 27th.
Junior Danielle Frasier is tied for 48th at 75, while sophomore Mariko Tumangan find herself tied for 80th at 81.
The second round begins at 8 a.m. (PT). The Cardinal tees off the first hole with Texas A&M and Arizona.
"Hopefully a few more putts will fall tomorrow," Walker said.
