Carrie Denning began sailing at the Belle Haven Club at nine because "I was immensely jealous of my older brother who had started the earlier year." Denning sailed optimists and competed at Opti Nationals, New Englands, and one trip to Bermuda for North Americans, where she met furture coach Jay Kehoe.

In High School at Greenwich Academy she was captain of her varsity team and won the Captain's Harbor Trophy for MVP. In 2006-07 Denning competed with Evan Brown as the women's Varsity A boat, and this year sails with Eddie Conrad on the Varsity Co-ed A boat. Denning enjoys sailing because "It is exciting and in the process my teammates have become my best friends."

Denning also enjoys sushi, architecture, skiing, and her two dogs, Coco and Captain.
