Emily Ruth begins her collegiate coaching career at Stanford in 2004 after spending the last four seasons playing collegiate field hockey at Wake Forest, where she helped the Demon Deacons to national championships in each of her last two campaigns (2002, '03) and the NCAA Final Four in each of her collegiate seasons.

Ruth scored 38 points in a productive playing career at Wake Forest, collecting 18 goals and a pair of assists. She had her biggest season as a junior in 2002 when she contributed 19 points on nine goals and one assist.

She received a Bachelor's degree in Communications from Wake Forest in May of 2004.
