Jason Turcotte is in his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Cardinal and his fifth campaign associated with the program. Turcotte will continue to assist in all phases of the operation, including daily workouts, recruiting and team travel.
"Jason is one of the finest young coaches in the country," said Stanford head coach Richard Quick. "His attention to detail and ability to relate to the student-athletes is extraordinary. He would be a coach that I would fear very much if he were at a rival school."
"He has been an invaluable resource to me both professional and personally, as well as to the entire team from the first day he became involved with our program," Quick continued. "He just continues to improve in all aspects of coaching and has become proficient in every phase of the job."
Turcotte began his tenure at Stanford as an administrative assistant during the 2000-01 academic year before spending the last three seasons as an assistant coach. He is credited with helping the Cardinal coaching staff coordinate four consecutive top-notch recruiting classes that have helped deepen a roster that was lacking in numbers upon his arrival to a current population of 30 swimmers and divers this season.
This year's freshman class includes 2004 Olympian Caroline Bruce, one of only three Stanford swimmers to have participated in Olympic action before beginning their collegiate career on The Farm. Stanford's 2003-04 class focused on filling gaps in Stanford's distance freestyle events and did just that with both Lauren Costella and Morgan Hentzen earning All-American honors in their rookie seasons. The 2002-03 group that heads into its junior campaign this year features 2004 Olympians Kristen Caverly and Dana Kirk, and was considered by many the best in the nation when they entered Stanford with four U.S. Olympic Trials and five Senior National finalists. The 2001-02 group of 19 swimmers and divers was the largest in school history.
Turcotte has also been involved with coaching in the Stanford Masters swimming program since 1999 and works with the Stanford Swim Camp.
Prior to arriving at Stanford, he spent the 1998-99 season as an assistant for the men's and women's teams at Cleveland State, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics in 1989. He was also an assistant for the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins (1988-98) after swimming for the club team from 1974-87. He graduated from Mayfield High School in Cleveland, Ohio.
Turcotte was married to the former Heidi Loomis on August 16, 2003, and the couple welcomed their first child, Jack, on September 2, 2004. The family resides in Palo Alto.
