L.J. Hepp enters his second season with Stanford basketball and his first season as an Assistant Coach. Hepp served on Mike Montgomery's staff at Stanford as the Video Coordinator during the 2003-04 season.
"I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by such a knowledgeable and committed staff," said Trent Johnson, Stanford head coach. "L.J. is certainly no exception. He is well on his way to developing in to an excellent coach."
Hepp, 25, arrived at Stanford after a two-year stint as the graduate assistant at North Carolina. His energy for recruiting played a substantial role in the staff's research of underclassman's academic background as well as planning official visits.
Hepp's first year on the The Farm was a monumental year for the Cardinal. Stanford raced out to a school record 26-0 start and won the Pac-10 regular season title with a 17-1 mark in league play. The championship was Stanford's fourth Pac-10 title in the last six years. In the post-season, Stanford won the Pac-10 tournament and earned a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament for the third time in the last five seasons. The Cardinal finished the season with a record of 30-2, posting the highest winning percentage in college basketball (.938) and earning the #1 ranking in the year's final Associated Press poll. Pac-10 Player of the Year, Josh Childress, was a first team All-American and was selected as the #6 overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks.
L.J. graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2001 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. He competed as a walk-on guard for Carolina's Junior Varsity team for two seasons. As a senior, he served as a Student Assistant Coach on the J.V. team and volunteered his time in the basketball office. His dedication earned him an opportunity to work as a Graduate Assistant on the UNC staff for the next two years where he assisted with recruiting and video, as well as continuing to work with the J.V. program. He earned a Master's degree in Sport Administration in 2003.
LJ. Is a Raleigh, NC native and played basketball at Leesville Road High School. He was also a four-year starter at shortstop on the baseball team. L.J. was born in Easton, PA.
