Pieter Lehrer begins his second season as an assistant coach with the Stanford men’s soccer team. In his first season with the Cardinal, Pieter helped the team to a 12-4-3 record and its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Under his guidance, the Stanford offense scored 35 goals, almost twice as many as their opponents.

Before coming to Stanford, Lehrer was an assistant coach with the varsity boys soccer program at Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa, California for three years, and at Santa Rosa High School for four.

As a player, Lehrer excelled in both the collegiate and professional ranks. He was a forward at UCLA from 1984-86, earning Bruin Rookie of the Year accolades in 1984 and capturing a national championship in 1985. He then played in Europe from 1986-91, beginning in Italy with Balzano, a Third Division team. He also competed in Austria with Axxom, a Third Division Team, and as a reserve for Premier Division teams VFB Admira Wacker Modling and Tirol Innsbruck. He then enjoyed a stint as a reserve with St. Mirren FC in Scotland’s Premier Division.

Lehrer graduated from UCLA in 1990 with a bachelor of arts in history.
