Tracye Lawyer returns to The Farm for her second stint as the Assistant Coach for the Cardinal men’s and women’s multi-event athletes. Lawyer served a similar role for Stanford track and field in 1999. Following the 1999 season, Lawyer focused her attention full-time on training for the heptathlon. At the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials, Lawyer finished seventh. In 2001, Lawyer was fourth in the heptathlon at the U.S. National Championships.

Lawyer was a three-time All-American in the heptathlon for Stanford and the 1999 NCAA champion in the event. Lawyer preceded her NCAA heptathlon title with a runner-up performance in 1998 and third place finish in 1997. From 1997-99, Lawyer won three consecutive Pac-10 titles in the heptathlon, the only woman in Pac-10 history to accomplish such a feat. In 1999, Lawyer finished sixth at the U.S. National Championships and fourth at the World University Games. Lawyer is the school record holder in the heptahlon and was named the Stanford Female Athlete of the Year in 1999.
