Stanford Falls to Saint Mary's, 5-2

STANFORD, Calif. -The No. 15/16 Stanford softball team dropped a 5-2 decision to visiting Saint Mary's, Wednesday, at Smith Family Stadium in Stanford, Calif. The Cardinal falls to 28-13 overall, while the Gaels move to 17-26.

The Cardinal utilized all three of its pitchers on Wednesday with freshman Kelsey Stevens earning the start. She went 4.0 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts. She falls to 10-6 on the season. Senior Teagan Gerhart gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits. Saint Mary's freshman Lujane Mussadi earned the win, moving to 11-9.

Stanford was limited to five hits on the night, while the Gaels tallied nine. Senior centerfielder Sarah Hassman and sophomore Cassandra Roulundled the squad, each registering an RBI single.

The Gaels got on the board first as Brittany Sabatini hit a solo shot to left field off of Stevens in the third inning.

The Cardinal answered in the bottom of the third as Roulund hit a single to centerfield to bring home sophomore Leah White, who was on second have notching her seventh stolen base of the year.

Stanford took the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs and runners on the corners, Hassman hit a single up the middle to score pinch runner Tylyn Wells.

Saint Mary's continued to battle, regaining the lead for good in the top of the fifth. Designated player Andrea Hazel hit a solo home run to left field and then pinch hitter Shannon Low drove in Monika Reichhardt with a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Gaels added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning, capitalizing on a Cardinal error. Hazel hit a sacrifice fly to right field and then Loralie Fitzpatrick tallied an RBI single to right field.

Stanford will hit the road this weekend to resume Pac-12 play at No. 14 Washington, April 19-21. The Cardinal and Huskies will square-off in Seattle at 5 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and Noon on Sunday.
