Quotes from Singles First Round Action:
UCLA player Eric Taino: (On the first set loss in his victory to John James) "I was waiting for him to give me points, but in the second and third sets I was more aggressive. To lose without intensity is the worst thing you can do...I feel real fresh and I've got three good matches under my belt from earlier (in the team event) and I think that's an advantage."
Illinios player Gavin Sontag: (On advancing to the second round) "I came as a learning experience but this is a big national win for me." (On upset of No. 5 seed Johan Hede) "I felt that I had a good game to beat him and I broke him twice."
USC player Patrick Gottesleben: (On his loss to Oliver Tauma) "I thought I would win a couple of rounds for sure. I didn't play well the whole match. I should have beat him in two sets. My groundstrokes were off and my serve was average or below."
