Stanford's Clark Named MPSF Player-of-the-Week
Stanford junior defender Jamie Clark (Hanover, NH/North Carolina) was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player-of-the-Week for his efforts this past weekend on the road against division foes Washington and Oregon State.
Clark and the Cardinal defense force Washington, a team which was ranked eighth in the country and featured one of the top group of forwards in the nation, to fire half of their shots from 15 yards or more. The Huskies speedy forwards were unable to get behind the Cardinal defenders and that made the job easier for freshman goalkeeper Adam Zapala. Zapala, who leads the nation with a phenomonal 0.16 goals-against average, was required to make just one save on the afternoon (although it was a big one on a penalty kick in the 44th minute). Stanford defeated Washington 1-0. Against Oregon State, Zapala needed to make only two saves in 120 minutes of action in a 0-0 tie. The majority of the Beaver's shots came from a distance. Through 12 games this season, Stanford has posted 10 shutouts and has allowed just two goals.
Clark became the third Cardinal to be so honored this season, joining junior co-captain A.J. Sauer and Zapala.
