Stanford's Zapala Named MPSF Player-of-the-Week

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Stanford University men's soccer player Adam Zapala was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player-of-the-Week for his efforts in helping lead the 12th-ranked Cardinal to a 3-0 mark an the Saint Mary's College "Fall Soccer Classic" this past week.

Zapala, a freshman goalkeeper from Cupertino, Calif. (Bellarmine Prep), recorded nine saves, two shutouts and a 0.33 goals against average for the week. Both shutouts, against then-#16 Wisconsin and UC Irvine, came in the Saint Mary's tourney. On the season, he has registered 21 saves, five shutouts and a meager 0.29 gaa. His goals against average currently ranks first in the MPSF and the Far West Region, and third in the nation.

Zapala became the second Cardinal to be so honored this season, joining junior co-captain A.J. Sauer, who won the award two weeks ago.
