1995 Season Recap

Coming off back-to-back NCAA champion years, the Cardinal had high hopes of a three-peatseason. However, the loss of two first team All-Americans (WOLF WIGO & FRANKSCHNEIDER) was too hard to overcome. The talents of senior All-Americans JEREMYLASTER and goalie JACK BOWEN, along with seniors BRIAN PYLE, DAN HANCOCK, andJOSH LEACHMAN were not enough to offset the loss of WIGO & SCHNEIDER and the teamslipped to sixth in the nation and sixth in the MPSF league championships with a 17-11 record.

Highlights of the season included two narrow one goal losses to NCAA champion UCLA and an11-7 victory over NCAA runner-up California in the annual "Big Splash" rivalry prior to theCal-Stanford football game.

Several Stanford players earned post-season honors. BRIAN WALLIN was Stanford's topscorer and one of the nation's leaders with 73 points. His efforts offensively earned him firstteam All-America honors by the United States Water Polo Association. LASTER gained secondteam All-America honors, BOWEN was a third team All-American, while DANIEL LEHOCZKYwas an honorable mention All-America selection. WALLIN, LASTER and BOWEN were alsonamed to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) all-conference team. BOWEN,HANCOCK, MIKE PYLE and JEREMIAH ROBISON were named to the All Pac-10 Academicteam.

Three-time All-American senior JEREMY LASTER was chosen to represent the United States inthe 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
