STANFORD, Calif. - Junior first baseman Brian Ragira has been named Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference.
Ragira batted .444 (8-for-18) with four extra-base hits - including a pair of home runs - eight RBI and six runs scored as the Cardinal went 3-1 on the week and notched its fourth straight series victory. The Arlington, Texas, native hit safely and registered at least one RBI in all four Cardinal games last week.
The preseason All-American opened the week with a two-run homer in the first inning of a 9-2 win over Pacific on Tuesday.
In Friday's 4-3 win over Arizona, Ragira went 1-for-3 with an RBI and reached base after being hit by a pitch in the fifth inning. Ragira followed that with a 4-for-5 performance on Saturday, during which he nearly hit for the cycle. He doubled, tripled and collected a pair of singles while driving in a pair of runs and scoring three more.
During the series-clinching win for Stanford on Sunday, Ragira went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.
Ragira leads the Cardinal with six home runs and has homered five times in his last nine games.
Ragira also copped the Pac-12 weekly honor last season and is Stanford's 69th all-time selection.
