STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 15/17 Stanford softball team dropped a 9-6 decision at Pacific, Wednesday, at Bill Simoni Field. The Cardinal now stands at 29-16 overall, while the Tigers improve to 28-22.
Senior pitcher Teagan Gerhart started the game in the circle, allowing five runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings with three strikeouts. Freshman Kelsey Stevens gave up the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the loss and drop to 11-7. Pacific senior Nikki Armagost earned the win, moving to 12-5.
Sophomores Leah White and Erin Ashby led the team offensively, going 2-for-3 with three RBI each. Both White and Ashby hit a three-run home run in the contest.
Pacific third baseman Taylor Petty gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run homer to left field.
In the top of the third, White hit a three-run shot to right field to put the Cardinal on top 3-2. It was the second long ball of the season for the left fielder and the seventh of her career.
The Tigers knotted it up at 3-3 in the bottom of the third on an RBI single to right field by catcher Amy Moore.
Pacific rallied in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead. Armagost started it out with an RBI single through the right side. Shortstop Megan Allen then hit an RBI double and Moore scored on a wild pitch.
With one swing of the bat, Ashby tied it up 6-6 with a three-run shot off of the scoreboard in top of the sixth inning. It marked the fourth homer of the season for the designated player.
For the second straight inning, the Tigers scored three runs in an inning to regain the lead, 9-6. Left fielder Megan Foglesong hit an RBI double and then Armagost drove in two runs with a single down the left line.
Stanford returns to The Farm to host Utah for a three-game Pac-12 series, April 26-28. The Cardinal and Utes will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks on Friday and Sunday with first pitches scheduled for 5 p.m. and 1p.m., respectively.
