STANFORD, Calif.- Denis Lin has been honored as the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Friday afternoon at the Pac-12 Championships.
In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution. The athletic accomplishments of the nominees are also factored into the voting for the award.
A native of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Lin was honored as a Pac-12 All-Academic selection in each of the last two seasons and is a three-time ITA Scholar Athlete recipient. A mechanical engineering major, Lin sports a 3.85 GPA.
Lin owns an 8-7 singles record this year while winning both of his dual matches. He and John Morrissey have paired up as the Cardinal's top doubles team, notching a 9-7 record and attaining a national ranking of No. 53.
For his career, Lin is 57-46 overall in singles play and 72-43 in doubles competition.
A Scholar-Athlete of the Year is chosen in each of the Pac-12's 22 sponsored sports: baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, football, men's golf, women's golf, women's gymnastics, men's rowing, women's rowing, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track & field, women's track & field, women's volleyball, and wrestling.
The Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards were established during the 2007-08 academic year.
