STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford's coed sailing squad supplanted Georgetown as No. 1 in the national rankings, and now set its sights on this month's Intercollegiate Sailing Association National Championships (May 25-27). This is the first No. 1 ranking in program history for the Cardinal, who also ranks 10th in the women's poll.

Stanford received nine of 19 first-place votes to take the top spot in the national poll released Wednesday. Second-place Yale and third-place Georgetown both received five first-place votes.

In what has been a year of many firsts for Stanford sailing, the coed team took home its first-ever win at ICSA National Championship semifinals last weekend in Norfolk, Va.

The Cardinal tallied 118 points to finish ahead of co-host Old Dominion (134). The victory came as a result of strong second-place finishes by both the A- and B-Division units.

The A-Division unit posted 62 points behind Kevin Laube, Hans Henken, Kelly Ortel, Rebecca King and Yuri Namikawa.

Oliver Toole, Mateo Vargas, Haley Kirk and Tally Buckstaff scored 56 points in the B-Division.

The women's team will compete in ICSA National Championships (May 21-24) in Tampa, Fla.
