STANFORD, Calif. - Saturday's Big Row at Redwood Shores will feature a pair of top-10 I Eights go head-to-head as No. 7 Stanford looks to upend No. 3 California.
Men's action begins with the Frosh Eight at 9:50 a.m., followed by the II Eight at 10:20 a.m. and the I Eight main event at 10:40 a.m.
Overall action will begin at 9 a.m. with the first of two alumnae races. The event will also feature longtime Stanford and Cal supporter Dan Gordon of Gordon Biersch serving his famous beverages, bratwurst and garlic fries. Proceeds from the concessions will benefit both teams.
The race will be the second time this season that the crews have competed against one another, as Cal captured wins in the I Eight, II Eight and Frosh Eight competitions over the Cardinal at the San Diego Crew Classic in early April.
The I Eight rematch between the top-10 crews should be highly anticipated as the boats finished four seconds apart in that Grand Final in San Diego.
The Cardinal enters Saturday with plenty of momentum, as the I Eight captured three of four races in its last action, defeating Orange Coast College, then-No. 11 Wisconsin and then-No. 20 Oregon State at the Stanford Invitational two weeks ago. That weekend the Cardinal fell only to No. 1 Washington.
The Frosh Eight split its four races that weekend but ended it on a high note as it defeated Oregon State.
Saturday's race will be Stanford's final action before May 19's Pac-12 Championships at Lake Natoma.
