DAVIS, Calif. - For the second straight year, the No. 16/17 Stanford softball team fell in a one-run game at UC Davis, 5-4, Wednesday, at La Rue Field. The Cardinal drops to 32-17 overall, while the Aggies improve to 22-24.

Senior pitcher Teagan Gerhart took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits. She is now 18-9 overall. UC Davis' Justine Vela earned the win, moving to 14-8.

Stanford jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With two on and no outs, freshman Kayla Bonstrom hit a single down the right line to score sophomore Hanna Winter. Right fielder Cassandra Roulund brought home sophomore Leah White on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

The Cardinal added a run in the top of the third as sophomore Erin Ashby brought home Bonstrom with a single through the left side.

UC Davis answered in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs on a single up the middle by right fielder Jasmine Lee.

The Aggies threatened in the bottom of the fifth inning, sparking a pitching change by head coach John Rittman, bringing in freshman Kelsey Stevens. After six consecutive balls, Gerhart re-entered the game and got out of the jam unscathed.

Stanford scored again in the top of the seventh as Bonstrom hit a single to centerfield, bringing home Winter.

UC Davis cut the lead to 4-3 on an RBI single by left fielder Cat Guidry. Shortstop Christa Castello hit the walk-off single, scoring Guidry and pinch runner Megan Guzman.

Stanford remains on the road this weekend, playing a three-game Pac-12 series at Bay Area rival No. 12/13 California, May 3-5.
