STANFORD, Calif. - Fresh off of its defeat of then-No. 3 California at The Big Row, No. 4 Stanford men's rowing head to Lake Natoma for Sunday's Pac-12 Championships.
Stanford's I Eight and II Eight each took third at last year's event while the Frosh Eight took fourth as the Cardinal finished third overall in the team standings. This year the Cardinal will enter a full team (I Eight, II Eight, Four, Frosh Eight), with the I Eight seeded second, the Frosh Eight third and the II Eight and Four both fourth.
The Cardinal faces off against a stacked field which includes top-ranked Washington, No. 6 California, Oregon State, Washington State and Colorado. Stanford owns wins over California and Oregon State already this season, was defeated by Washington in mid-April and has not faced Washington State or Colorado.
"The team is dialed into the 'Stanford Tunnel', that is we are driven by the work, the intensity of the moment, and the satisfaction of working side by side," said Cardinal head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "We are dedicated to one another and pushing our boundaries to the extreme. I anticipate each man and woman (coxswains Nathalie Weiss and Patty Hamilton) will do their best work of the season."
The men's portion of the event will start with the Novice Eight Grand Final at 9:15 a.m. The Four Grand Final is set for a 9:45 a.m. start, the II Eight at 10:15 a.m. and the I Eight closes out the event at 10:45 a.m.
