STANFORD, Calif. - No. 11 Stanford posted a 17-over-par 301 on Thursday afternoon at the NCAA D1 Women's Golf West Regional at Stanford Golf Course.
The Cardinal finds itself in 12th place, tied with a group that includes No. 28 LSU, No. 44 Ohio State and No. 56 San Jose State.
Leading the tournament was No. 7 Vanderbilt who took the lead with 289 (+5). One stroke back in second was No. 1 USC (290, +6), while No. 12 Purdue (291, +7), No. 40 Oregon (292, +8) and No. 19 Baylor (295, +11) round out the top five.
"Today wasn't what we had hoped for," said Anne Walker, Stanford's Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf. "With that being said, we are only 12 out of first with a lot of golf left. It is reasonable to think that we could post a great round tomorrow and have a shot at the championship on Saturday. We are still very focused on our goal. This hasn't discouraged us at all."
With a pair of two-over-par 73s, freshman Lauren Kim and sophomore Mariko Tumangan led the Cardinal. Both tied for 36th.
Freshman Mariah Stackhouse fired a 75, tying for 46th. Tied for 77th was Junior Danielle Frasier who posted a 78, while senior Sally Watson tied for 108th with an 81.
Competition continues on Friday at 7:30 a.m. (PT).
