INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Stanford women's rowing's three boats, battling inclement weather as well as tough competition, fell short of qualifying for Sunday's NCAA Grand Finals in windy conditions Saturday at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis.
The conditions forced the eventual suspension of the late portion of Saturday's card, although Stanford's races were completed before the decision.
All three boats will now race in their respective Petite Finals Sunday for places 7-12. The Fours Petite Final is set for 6:20 a.m. PT, the II Eight is set for 6:40 a.m. PT and the I Eight event is scheduled to get underway at 7 a.m. PT.

The I Eight opened the day for the Cardinal, facing three Pac-12 opponents among the five other boats in its semifinal. Needing a top-three finish to advance to the Grand Final, the Cardinal was less than a second out of the third spot after the opening 500 meters. The boat would fall back to fifth over the middle 1,000 meters and found itself just under 10 seconds off the third-place pace. The Cardinal could not make up the water over the final sprint, ending up sixth with a time of 7:17.747, 17 seconds behind race winner Virginia (7:00.612) and just over eight seconds behind third-place California.
The II Eight sprinted out to the lead in its semifinal, holding a three-second lead over the field after the opening 500 meters. The field closed on the Cardinal by the halfway point of the course, Ohio State and Harvard taking over the top two spots although Stanford held a slim edge on USC for third. While Ohio State pulled out to a comfortable lead, the race set up for a dramatic final 500 meters for the final two Grand Final spots as four boats, Yale, USC, Harvard and Stanford, were separated by just over a second. Yale and USC would end up winning the spots in the sprint, however, with Stanford finishing fifth in 7:31.671, 12 seconds back of Ohio State (7:19.611) and just over seven seconds back off third-place USC.
The Four opened its semifinal in fourth position, less than a second out of third. The pace would pick up over the second 500 and the Cardinal fell to fifth, just under four seconds behind the third-place pace, then eight seconds back after the third 500. Stanford would end up fifth in 7:52.286, just over 15 seconds behind race winner Ohio State (7:36.710) and over 10 seconds back of third-place Brown.
