EUGENE, Ore. - Stanford junior Kori Carter advanced to her second final of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, qualifying in the 100-meter hurdles Thursday at Hayward Field.

Carter ran 12.94 to finish second in her heat to collegiate leader Briana Rollins of Clemson, who set a meet record of 12.47. Carter qualified fourth overall and becomes only the second Cardinal to reach an NCAA final in that event, following teammate Katie Nelms last season.

Carter also is the U.S. leader and top qualifier going into the 400 hurdles final on Friday at 4:30 p.m. She will follow with the 100 hurdles final Saturday at 3:09 p.m.

With a heavy workload, Carter was left off Stanford’s 4x400 relay for the semifinal round. The Cardinal team of Carissa Levingston, Kala Stepter, Amy Weissenbach, and Justine Fedronic was fifth in its race in 3:37.82 and failed to advance, placing 17th overall.

Stanford’s Tyler Stutzman also failed to advance, finishing 10th in his semifinal heat of the 1,500 in 3:45.48, and placed 21st overall.

Stutzman was in fine position going into the final lap, holding fifth place in a tight pack that included all 12 runners, but was unable to free himself and covered the last 400 in 57.4. In comparison, Oklahoma's Riley Masters won the heat by pulling away with a 54.9 with only the top five advancing automatically to the final.

Besides Carter, other Cardinal competing Friday are Fedronic and Weissenbach in the 800 final at 5:20 p.m. and Aisling Cuffe and Jessica Tonn in the women’s 5,000 final at 6:15 p.m.
