Stanford Sweeps Air Force

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The eighth-ranked Stanford women’s volleyball team swept Air Force, 25-11, 25-14, 25-15, Thursday, in the Service Academy Challenge at the Pentagon Athletic Center in Washington, D.C. The Cardinal moves to 3-2 on the season, while the Falcons dropped to 2-6.

Senior middle blocker Carly Wopat recorded a career high .833 attack percentage (10-0-12) to go with four blocks. Senior outside hitter Rachel Williams added 10 kills and a season-high .533 hitting percentage, while sophomore Brittany Howard also notched a career-high hitting percentage (.800) with eight kills on 10 errorless swings. Sophomore Jordan Burgess finished 8-0-13 for a career-best .615 attack percentage.

Sophomore setter Madi Bugg tallied 24 assists and two service aces. Freshman setter Kelsey Humphreys made her collegiate debut against the Falcons, finishing with 12 assists and four digs. As a team, the Cardinal finished with a season-high .609 attack percentage, while Air Force hit .110.

Ayesha Hein led Air Force with seven kills on a .364 attack percentage, while setter Hillary Keltner finished with 24 assists.

Thirteen of Stanford’s 15 players entered the match on Thursday. Sophomore middle blocker Megan McGehee recorded three kills for the Cardinal, while senior Mary Ellen Luck was the team’s libero for the third set.

Stanford concludes the Service Academy Challenge on Friday, Sept. 13. The Cardinal will face Yale at 7 a.m. PT and Army at 1 p.m. PT in the Pentagon.
