STANFORD, Calif. – No. 6 Stanford will look to continue its six-game winning streak this weekend, heading to Albany, N.Y., to take on No. 5 Syracuse and No. 11 Albany.
The Cardinal (6-1, 1-0 NorPac) will open its weekend slate against Syracuse (7-1, 0-1 ACC) on Saturday at 11 a.m. PT, and take on Albany (8-0, 0-0 America East) on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Stanford is coming off a big weekend, beating Bay Area rival California 3-0 to earn its fourth consecutive shutout of the season. Alex McCawley scored twice and was named the NorPac Offensive Player of the Week. The Cardinal extended its scoreless streak to 348:39, with the most recent goal allowed in the second minute against No. 20 New Hampshire on Sept. 6.
Stanford also earned a No. 6 ranking in the NFHCA Coaches’ Poll – matching the team’s highest ranking in program history. It is the third sixth-place ranking the Cardinal has earned, after reaching the sixth position on Sept. 27, 2011, and Sept. 22, 1987.
Stanford has accumulated six straight wins and moved up the rankings thanks in large part to a prolific offensive attack and shutdown defense.
The Cardinal holds advantages over opponents in shots (118-29), penalty corners (63-13) and goals (19-5). Stanford is tied for ninth in the nation with 9.00 penalty corners per game, while nine different Cardinal players have recorded at least one goal.
Kelsey Harbin leads the team with 10 points on four goals and two assists, followed by Courtney Haldeman and Hope Burke who have tallied three goals apiece.
The Stanford defense, backed by goalkeeper Dulcie Davies, has allowed five goals in seven games and leads the nation in shutouts per game (0.57). Davies holds a 0.69 GAA, which ranks first in the country.
During its four-game shutout streak, Stanford has held opponents to nine shots and five penalty corners.
Syracuse split a pair of games last week, falling to Boston College, 6-3, and defeating defending national champion Princeton 4-0. Leonie Geyer leads the team with 19 points, while Lauren Brooks has scored a team-leading seven goals. Jess Jecko has logged a majority of the minutes in goal and owns a .593 save percentage and 1.79 GAA.
Albany earned two victories last week against Lafayette and Lehigh to remain one of four undefeated teams in the country. Daphne Voormolen leads the team with 17 points and is tied with Liza Morgan for the team lead in goals with seven apiece. Maxi Primus has made seven starts and holds a .709 save percentage and 0.99 GAA.
