ALBANY, N.Y. - No. 6 Stanford dropped its second match of the season Saturday to No. 5 Syracuse, 3-1, snapping its six-game winning streak.
Syracuse (8-1, 0-1 ACC) jumped out to an early lead, scoring at 18:05 to snap Stanford's (6-2, 1-0 NorPac) four-game shutout streak. It was the first goal Stanford allowed in 366:44.
The Orange added a second goal just before halftime when Alyssa Manley tapped in a rebound off a penalty corner to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Syracuse held advantages over Stanford in shots (5-2) and penalty corners (3-1) in the first half.
Stanford wouldn’t go quietly, however, with Alex McCawley scoring in the 60th minute on a deflection off a penalty corner to cut Syracuse’s lead in half. It was McCawley's third goal in the past two games. Kelsey Harbin and Shannon Herold assisted the goal.
Dulcie Davies was strong in net and kept the Cardinal within striking distance, making a season-high six saves.
Despite outshooting Syracuse 6-5 and holding a 5-1 penalty corner advantage in the second half, Stanford was unable to find the equalizer. The Orange added a third goal with just less than six minutes to play to seal the victory.
