STANFORD, Calif. – Five members of the Cardinal sailing team placed fourth at the Navy Fall Women’s Intersectional regatta this weekend at Annapolis, Md.
Skippers Maeve White and Lily Katz traded crew members Nicolette Obel and Michelle Catania halfway through the 18 races, while senior skipper Sarah Mace sailed solo. Together the teams combined for 439 points, finishing behind Yale (302), College of Charleston (375) and Navy (395).
The three teams started the first day of competition with top-10 finishes in each of their first races. Mace completed the weekend with four first-place and nine top-five finishes, to place sixth in division-C. White captured nine top-ten finishes in division-A and Katz contributed 12 top-ten finishes in division-B.
Stanford also competed at the Moody Trophy regatta at Wakefield, R.I., this weekend where they placed 10th in a field of 17 teams.
Skipper Hans Henken and crew Carolyn Ortell finished third in division-C with 68 points, falling to Boston College (43) and Yale (46). Stanford was represented in division-B by skipper Max Kohrman and crew Samantha Steele who contributed one first-place finish and three top-10 finishes.
Stanford will be a bit spread out next weekend as it heads to three separate regattas. The Cardinal will compete at Navy Fall, Yale Women’s and Stoney Burke regattas.
