LOS ANGELES – The seventh-ranked Stanford women’s volleyball team remained undefeated in Pac-12 play as it swept No. 16 UCLA, 25-17, 25-15, 25-16, Wednesday, at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif. The Cardinal improves to 10-2 on the season and 3-0 in the Pac-12, while the Bruins drop to 9-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Senior Carly Wopat led the Cardinal with 13 kills on a .667 attack percentage to go with six blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Jordan Burgess finished with 12 kills and nine digs, while sophomore Inky Ajanaku hit .500 (9-0-18) with three blocks. Senior Rachel Williams registered seven kills, including the 1000th of her career, and 11 digs. Sophomore Brittany Howard also reached a milestone, posting her 400th career kill in the match.
Sophomore setter Madi Bugg controlled the offense, recording 42 assists and 10 digs for her third double-double of the season. Junior libero Kyle Gilbert tallied double-digit digs for the 10th time this season, finishing with 11. As a team, Stanford hit .390, while UCLA was held to a .123 attack percentage.
Stanford jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 win in the opening set. The Cardinal hit .586 with 18 kills on 29 attempts with just one error. Burgess led the team with seven kills, while Wopat recorded six kills and three blocks. Bugg racked up 16 assists in the set. Karsta Lowe led the Bruins with five kills.
The Cardinal again outhit the Bruins to secure a 25-15 win in the second set. Stanford hit .367 as a team and held UCLA to a .062 clip. Burgess and Wopat again led the team with four kills apiece. Williams added three kills for the Cardinal, including the 1000th of her career. Ajanaku added three kills and two blocks in the second for Stanford.
Stanford cruised to a 25-16 victory to complete the sweep in the third set. Leading the entire way, the Cardinal hit .268 while the Bruins hit .085. Ajanaku paced Stanford with four kills, while Williams and Wopat each put down three. Gilbert and Williams both collected five digs in the set to lead the defense. Lowe finished with 11 kills to lead UCLA.
Stanford wraps-up the week on Friday, Oct. 4 as it takes on No. 2 USC in the Galen Center. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
