Singlehanded Success

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Stanford sailing battled cold and windy conditions to earn three top-seven finishes this weekend at the ICSA/LP Men’s and Women’s Singlehanded Championships.

Racing in temperatures in the 40’s, Molly McKinney led the way for the Cardinal at the national championships regatta, finishing fifth in a field of 18 sailors. McKinney accumulated 107 points in the women’s competition, which raced radial boats. The senior had 16 top-10 finishes, including nine top-five results, and two victories over 18 races.

McKinney was followed closely by teammate Sarah Mace, who finished seventh with 116 points. Mace raced to two victories and earned eight finishes in the top-five and 16 in the top-10.

Oliver Toole was the lone Cardinal representative in the men’s competition and sailed to a seventh-place result. Racing laser boats, Toole placed in the top-5 six times and earned 12 top-10 finishes.

Big Sail Approaching Fast

The annual Big Sail featuring races between the Stanford and California teams will take place Tuesday, November 19.

The event includes a buffet and a full day of head-to-head racing. Bands and cheerleaders from both schools will be on hand to add to the atmosphere and excitement.
