STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford men’s swimming and diving team handed visiting Wisconsin a 176-116 defeat Saturday at Avery Aquatic Center, its second dual meet win over a Big Ten Conference foe in as many outings.

“It was a real positive day on a lot of levels for a lot of reasons,” Goldman Family Director of Men’s Swimming Ted Knapp said. “It was great to be able to swim on this nice, sunny day in November. I really appreciate a great program like Wisconsin coming out here two years in a row. We’re fortunate that we are able to host events like this – especially in the fall – when we can race as much as we can before our conference meets.

“We’ve got three weeks before the UNLV meet, which will be another version of a training meet. We’re going to see if we can swim faster at UNLV compared to how we did at the same point last fall. Our goal is to train better and swim faster.”

Following a triple-distance meet at Cal on Nov. 6, Stanford wraps up the fall portion of its schedule at the UNLV Invite (Nov. 21-23).

David Nolan took the 200 free in 1:37.60. Tom Kremer (1:39.09) was next in line for Stanford with a bronze showing. Stanford’s second straight win came behind a 50.01 in the 100 back by Gray Umbach.

Nolan would go on to win the 200 back (1:46.23) and Kremer did the same in the 100 free (45.03).

Spots 2-4 in the 1,000 free went to Chris Pickard (9:27.14), Sean Duggan (9:29.08) and Drew Cosgarea (9:34.06).

Mason Shaw won the 100 breast (56.67) and Max Williamson bettered all swimmers with his 1:49.34 in the 200 fly. Shaw took second in the 200 breast (2:04.02) and was Stanford’s highest finisher in the race.

The 200 medley relay saw Nolan, Shaw, Umbach and Connor Black cruise to victory in 1:30.83.

Kristian Ipsen (398.25) won the 1-meter as Bradley Christensen (348.90) claimed second. Bradley (384.83) responded with a win in the 3-meter. Each Cardinal diver notched an NCAA qualifying score.
