Cardinal Handles Badgers

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford stayed perfect in women’s swimming and diving dual meet action with a 201-85 win over Wisconsin at Avery Aquatic Center. The Cardinal (4-0) swept each of Saturday’s 16 events.

Felicia Lee had a hand in four Cardinal victories, tapping first with the 200 medley and 200 free relays while claiming gold in the 100 fly (53.63) and 100 back (54.78).

“I was pleased with the way we swam. But I think we looked better in our training session on Thursday than we did today, which is a pretty good indicator that we’re putting in some good work,” Stanford head coach Greg Meehan said. “I liked our attention to detail and the fact that we managed the event schedule well.

“It was great opportunity to race here at home one last time this fall. We’re going to push hard for one more week, and then incorporate more focus on our speed for the two weeks after.”

Meehan and the Cardinal will put that speed to use when the squad returns to competition at the Art Adamson Invitational (Nov. 21-23) in College Station, Texas.

Lia Neal shelved wins in the 200 (1:50.08) and 100 free (50.01). Neal was joined in the top three of the 200 free by Julia Anderson (1:50.76) and Annemarie Thayer (1:52.02).

Maya DiRado pulled off the daily double with wins in the 200 fly (1:59.37) and 500 free (4:50.47). Sarah Haase was a double-winner in the 200 (2:15.34) and 100 breast (1:02.27). Katie Olsen (1:02.52) followed Haase in the 100 breast for the 1-2 Cardinal finish.

Andie Taylor clocked a 9:56.18 to win the 1,000 free, nearly nine seconds ahead of second-place Tara Halsted (10:05.08).

The 100 back also featured three Cardinal in the top three, as Maddy Schaefer (55.47) and Garce Carlson (57.36) followed suit behind Lee.

Schaefer's most impressive performance of the day came in the 50 free when she topped Wisconsin's Ivy Martin, 22.37 to 22.65. Schaefer's time is the fastest in the country to date.

Kassidy Cook (295.95) won the 1-meter event and was joined in the top three by Stephanie Phipps (289.13) and Sloane Brazina (270.45). Phipps' 326.40 was enough to win the 3-meter.

Stanford posted bookend relay victories, taking the 200 medley in 1:39.80 and the 200 free in 1:31.76.
