Tia Jackson, a 1995 graduate of the University of Iowa, joins the Cardinal coaching staff for her first season on The Farm. Her primary duties are on-campus recruiting, conditioning and scouting.
Jackson was an assistant coach at Virginia Commonwealth University for the past three seasons. Her primary responsibilities were on - and off - campus recruiting, scouting, conditioning and on-court coaching.
Following the 1996-97 season at VCU, Jackson spent the summer playing in the WNBA during its inaugural season. She was the ninth pick overall in the draft and played in 28 of the Phoenix Mercury's 30 games. On the season, she averaged 2.8 points and 2.1 rebounds, however because of injuries she was unable to continue her professional playing career.
As a student-athlete at Iowa, she helped lead the Hawkeyes to four Top 25 final rankings in the five seasons she played. During her junior season, she spurred the Hawkeyes to a berth in the Final Four and earned NCAA Mideast Regional All-Tournament honors. She finished her career at Iowa 10th on the all-time list for rebounds with 507 and seventh in steals with 168. She averaged 10.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.47 steals.
Jackson earned honorable mention All-America honors as a senior at Mardela Springs High School in Mardela Springs, Maryland. She scored 3,108 points during her impressive prep career.
