EUGENE, Ore.- Anthony Brown scored a career-high 24 points and Chasson Randle added 23 as Stanford knocked off No. 17/13 Oregon on Sunday afternoon for its second true road win over a top-25 team this year.
The Cardinal (10-5, 1-2 Pac-12) grabbed the lead with four minutes left in the first half and held it the rest of the way.
The Ducks (13-3, 1-3 Pac-12) had a chance to tie on the game’s final possession but could not convert a layup as time expired.
Stanford, which also upset No. 10/10 Connecticut in Hartford back on Dec. 18, has now registered two road victories against top-25 opponents for the first time since 2002, when the Cardinal won at No. 13/13 UCLA and No. 14/14 Arizona.
Stanford shot 52.6 percent overall and 6-14 from three-point territory while owning a 32-26 rebounding edge. Perhaps more importantly, the Cardinal dished out 16 assists and forced 15 turnovers.
On an afternoon where Josh Huestis (0-7, 7 rebounds) and Stefan Nastic (1-3, 4 points, fouled out) struggled inside, Dwight Powell picked up the slack by chipping in with 14 points, six assists and five rebounds for Stanford.
The Cardinal also finally received production from its bench. Stanford’s reserves accounted for 16 points, nearly matching the team’s total (21) over the last five games combined.
Oregon knocked down nine of its first 15 shots to take a 27-21 lead with 7:19 to play in the half.
Trailing 34-33, Stanford scored eight of the period’s final 11 points to take a 41-37 lead into the break.
The Cardinal stretched its lead to 59-50 following a jumper from Brown at the 13:31 mark of the second half.
The Ducks then pulled within two points following three-pointers on four straight possessions - three coming from Moser – that cut Stanford’s lead to 64-62 with 11:38 to play.
Oregon trimmed the deficit to one possession following a jumper by Loyd that made it 77-74 with 2:12 to play, but Brown answered with a long jumper.
Brown sank the second of two free throws with 15 seconds left to secure the contest.
Stanford returns home to face Washington State on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.

QUOTES
Head Coach Johnny Dawkins
“We hadn’t won a Pac-12 game, so it’s good to get one under your belt. The way we did it was really good because I felt the guys had to dig deep and make some plays at the end to secure the lead.”
“I thought we saw a different team today. You could see it in their eyes right from the start. I thought the execution was good. We only had seven turnovers as a team and forced them into 15. That says a lot about our poise and ability to handle the pressure. I was really proud of them.”
“Moser had about four three-pointers in a row, and it was like, okay here we go. They’re a good team and we’ve watched them play a number of times. They’re going to have a great season. We just had to try and defend as best as we could because we know they’re going to make some shots like that. We didn’t want to let what they did disrupt us on the other end. They’re going to make tough shots - they’ve done that against everyone. We just had to stay the course and follow the game plan.”
“Oregon had to take some contested threes and they knocked a few down, as we expected. Our length was good, especially with Nastic in. Give Oregon credit. They never quit. They kept fighting, and that’s the kind of program Dana (Altman) has.”
Anthony Brown
“After going 1-10 against Oregon State on Thursday, I just had to move forward. I haven’t had a game like that all season. I told the team I felt like I let them down. During this game, I just wanted to make sure my energy level was there.”
“This means a lot. We split on the road and now we’re coming home for two games. I think we have to use this as a momentum-builder.”
“We knew we could score on them, but our biggest focus was to slow them down. They average close to 90 points, so we wanted to slow it down and use our size advantage.”
Chasson Randle
“Anthony (Brown) stepped up. The starters had a talk after the Oregon State game and Anthony stepped up and said `I've got you guys.’ We're going to do it together but I'm going to step up next game."
Oregon Head Coach Dana Altman
“The turnovers in the first half really put us in a hole. Offensively our numbers are great, we just didn’t get enough shots because of the turnovers, especially in the first half. So that was really a significant stat.”
“We had good looks on the final play. Johnathan (Loyd) had an uncontested jumper and Dominic (Artis) got all the way to the rim, we just didn’t make them. We put ourselves in that situation and just didn’t get it done.”
“We’ve got to regroup. After having a pretty good six week stretch, we had an awful eight days. I mentioned earlier that we would have an opportunity to find out about our team when we faced adversity and we didn’t handle it very well this week. Now, we just have to worry about Oregon State. It’s a long season. We need to stop worrying about the conference race and just worry about getting better.”
Mike Moser
“Nine times out of ten Dominic (Artis) goes to the rim and finishes over the big guy and gets fouled. I think he did a good job pressuring the refs to make the call, but sometimes that is just how it goes.”
“We will probably go back to some fundamental stuff to be honest. Defensively we are a little off, whether it is communication or players not knowing what they are supposed to be doing. We are definitely a little off. Obviously, you can look at our offensive numbers and see we are pretty consistent there. I think we are lacking defensively right now.”
Jason Calliste
“We just have to keep playing. It’s a long season. This week is over with so we will move on to the next week. It was a bad week. It happens. Everybody is frustrated. Nobody likes to lose. We know what we have to do. We need to get back together as a team in practice and work hard.”
