STANFORD, Calif.- Chasson Randle matched his career high with 33 points and Stanford received double-doubles from Dwight Powell and Josh Huestis in a 79-67 victory over Washington on Saturday night at Maples Pavilion.
Randle (10-13) and Powell (11-15) cashed in at the charity stripe, leading the way as Stanford finished 24-34 compared to Washington’s 6-9 clip from the foul line. It was the third time this year the Cardinal has attempted a season-best 34 freebies.
Stanford (12-5, 3-2 Pac-12) was sharp offensively overall, making 54.2 percent from the field in each half and dishing out 13 assists.
Meanwhile, Stanford shut down Washington’s C.J. Wilcox, who entered the game averaging 20.3 points per game. Anthony Brown drew the defensive assignment, holding Wilcox (nine points, 4-13 FG, 1-6 3FG) below double-digits for the first time this season.
Notching his third 30-point game of the year, Randle equaled his 33-point performance in a loss to BYU on Nov. 11. This time around, Randle finished 11-15 from the field overall while scoring 19 of his points after halftime.
Powell added 17 points and 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year while Huestis chipped in with 13 points and 10 boards for his third double-double. Huestis also had two blocks, increasing his career total to 157 and moving past Robin Lopez into second on Stanford's all-time list.
Stanford enjoyed its largest lead of eight points in the first half before taking a 41-36 advantage into the break.
After Perris Blackwell pulled the Huskies within 41-38 at the 19:27 mark of the second half, Randle scored 11 of the game's next 19 points, pushing the Cardinal lead to 54-43.
Andrew Andrews’ layup with 4:51 remaining pulled Washington within 65-58, but Randle scored the first five points in a 10-2 run that iced the game.
Riding a three-game winning streak, the Cardinal will travel to Southern California for its next two games, beginning with Thursday’s 8 p.m. contest against UCLA on Pac-12 Networks.

"I thought Chasson played a terrific game on both ends of the floor. I thought he defended well and made a number of good plays. He got to the basket and finished well. That was a real spark for us, his ability to get to the paint and create for himself. It broke our defense down and allowed other guys to get looks as well. I was really proud of what he did. Hopefully he can bottle it up. It was great for our team to see that he is capable of doing that."
“Washington is a very good team and they were coming off a tough loss. This game went down to the wire for the most part. We pulled away to double digits with three or four minutes to go but it was a heck of a game. Getting them in foul trouble was key. In the first half, we shot 17 free throws, which showed our aggressiveness and that we weren't settling. It is something we talked about as a team."

"You are not going to stop C.J. Wilcox. He is going to get shots and make shots because he is one of the best players in our league. I thought the thing we did well was identify him and try to find him as soon as he came across half court. He can shoot it from that far. We tried to be aware of where he was and try to stay with him. Our guys did a good job of that. Anthony Brown, in particular, because he had that assignment did a really good job of focusing and staying with him. "The way our offense is set up, Chasson has a chance to have a lot of those opportunities with his speed and craftiness with the ball. It was great to see him be aggressive throughout the whole game. It was no surprise he did as well as he did because that is what we see in practice every day. He is taking great shots and finishing."
“We knew that they were a really good defensive team. They historically have been good on defense. They are very aggressive in lanes denying passes. We knew with that pressure we had to be aggressive, be strong with the ball and make strong moves. We got rewarded with free throws by going to the basket strong and making good attack moves against that pressure defense. We got to the line and knocked a good percentage down."

“In the first half, we would get a stop. We had three guys, they had one and Huestis gets the rebound. There also was a loose ball we should have gotten, and we didn't, and it resulted in a three for them. It was a six-point game at that time. All three of those sequences gave them some momentum. They did a good job getting to the foul line. They shot 34 and we shot nine.”
“Randle was only able to score four buckets in the first half. In the second half, we didn't do a very good job of keeping him out of the lane. He spun on us, he got in the lane -- we just didn't do a very good job on him. He is a heck of a player when he gets going and he’s tough to deal with.”
