STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford sailing recorded 10 top-five finishes over three home regattas this past weekend, as the team returned to action for its spring season.
Following a month-long break after the Rose Bowl Regatta, the Cardinal played host to the Bryson Women’s Intersectional, North #1 and North #2. It was a big weekend for Stanford, which had 14 teams earn at least one first-place finish.
Stanford claimed each of the top-four spots in division-A and division-B at the North #1 regatta. Antoine Screve and Helena Scutt led the way in division-A, posting two wins and five top-five placements in five races to finish with nine points. The team of Oliver Toole and Carolyn Ortel finished second with 11 points followed by Kieran Chung and Cally Tullo (15), and Mateo Vargas and Tally Buckstaff (18).
Kevin Laube and Samantha Steel claimed top honors in division-B with nine points on two first-place finishes and five top-five placements.
Stanford dominated the Bryson Women’s Intersectional, led by Molly McKinney and Nicolette Obel’s first-place finish in division-A with 19 points. The duo won three times and finished in the top five in all 10 races.
Maeve White and Michelle Catania finished second in division-A with 30 points, while Scott Buckstaff and Katie Walker placed fourth with 37 points.
Stanford claimed the top three spots in division-B, and was paced by Holly Tullo and Noelle Herring, which won six of 10 races and finished with 16 points.
The Cardinal claimed four of the top five spots at the North #2 regatta. Kieran Chung and Haley Kirk delivered a dominating performance, finishing first in all four of their races to win division-A. They were followed by Mateo Vargas and Tally Buckstaff in third with 14 points, and Oliver Toole and Carolyn Ortel in fourth with 20 points.
Antoine Screve and Helena Scutt rounded out Stanford’s performance in division-A with a fifth-place result of 31 points.
Kevin Laube and Yuri Namikawa set the tone in division-B with two wins and four top-five finishes to place first with 6 points. Stanford also claimed second through fourth place in the division.
The Cardinal will compete in the College of Charleston Spring Coed Interconference next weekend in South Carolina.
