Maverick Pilots Cardinal

LA QUINTA, Calif. – Maverick McNealy and Patrick Rodgers each turned in an opening-round 65 Monday as No. 11 Stanford leads the field through 18 holes at the Prestige at PGA West. The Cardinal pair is tied for first while Cameron Wilson’s 68 was good for third.

Play at PGA West’s Greg Norman Course was favorable for co-host Stanford, which holds an 11-shot lead over second-place San Diego State, with four scorers placing among the top 15.

Tuesday’s round for the 12-team field begins at 8:45 a.m. (PT).

Rodgers’ output was aided by a tremendous back nine, entering the turn at even before rattling off six birdies on the par-71 course.

McNealy’s round played out quite the same. A bogey on the par-4 sixth dropped him back to even, but a birdie on eight and five more on the back nine highlighted the career day for the first-year swinger.

Wilson played the first 10 holes at even-par and notched back-to-back birdies on 11-12 and 15-16. The lone bogey in Wilson's round came on the par-4 18th.
