Nightcap Nets Win No. 20

LAS VEGAS - Chasson Randle scored a team-high 22 points to lead Stanford to a 74-63 win over Washington State in the first round of the 2014 Pac-12 Tournament at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

All five Stanford starters scored in double figures as Dwight Powell registered 16 points, while Josh Huestis and Anthony Brown added 12 apiece. Stefan Nastic finished with 10.

"I think in a tournament setting you always have to expect teams to step up regardless of their record, because once you start the tournament everyone is 0-0," said Powell. "We definitely expected fight and we prepared for a fight. Thankfully, we prepared in the right way, so we came out and we were able to win the game."

The Cardinal (20-11), which has now won four straight over the Cougars (10-21), secured its third 20-win season under sixth-year head coach Johnny Dawkins.

"I thought we did a great job of controlling tempo. I thought we put the ball where it needed to be," said Dawkins. "I thought we really established our post presence with Stefan Nastic early and we established it even more with Dwight."

"Our guys really played at a good tempo. By keeping good spacing, they shared the basketball, and took shots in rhythm, which is always a good thing."

Washington State's DaVonte Lacy finished with a game-high 25.

Stanford held a 28-24 advantage in the rebounds column. The Cardinal shot 58.5 percent from the field, the highest by a WSU opponent this season.

The Cardinal advanced to the Thursday's Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals Thursday and will face No. 3 seed Arizona State at 8:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1. The teams split the regular season with each winning on its home court.
