COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2014 NCAA Fencing Championships came to a conclusion on Sunday in Columbus, Ohio as Stanford’s Alexander Massialas garnered first team All-America honors with his third place finish.
Massialas earned the top seed for the semifinals in men’s foil after winning 20 of his 23 bouts in the five rounds of pool play. In the semifinals, Massialas fell to Penn State’s David Willette by a score of 15-9. Willette went on to lose to Notre Dame’s Gerek Meinhardt in the championship. Massialas has earned first team All-America honors in each of his first two seasons on The Farm after winning the national championship last year as a freshman.
Joining Massialas in the men’s foil was freshman Stephen Aman. Competing at his first NCAA Championships, Aman won four bouts for 24th place.
Stanford also had two fencers competing in men’s epee. Senior Jake Harbour finished in 22nd place with eight victories while junior Paul Riviere ended up 24th with four wins.
As a team Stanford finished ninth at the NCAA Championships. Seven fencers combined for 82 wins to put them among the top 10.
