HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Stanford battled tough course and weather conditions Saturday and shot a 19-over 303 in the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club. The women’s golf squad, which sits in 10th place, concludes the three-day event Sunday morning.
Duke leads the 17-team field at 7-over, while Stanford is 32-over (297-303).
“This was a good day for us, and it exposed some weaknesses for us to work on,” said Anne Walker, the Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women’s Golf. “Our short games have gotten a little rusty, and that opened the door to a high score. We have to tighten things up moving forward and keep our ceiling lower.”
Casey Danielson led all Cardinal shooters with a 74, cleaning things up with a 1-under back nine after going out at 4-over. Danielson is tied for 26th.
Mariah Stackhouse is tied for 16th at 5-over after rounds of 70-77. Stackhouse couldn't get into a groove with a 3-over on both the front and back halves.
Lauren Kim was good for a 75, and Marissa Mar turned in a 78 after going even on the front nine.
Quirine Eijkenboom is tied for 60th after rounds of 78-88.
