STANFORD, Calif. –
Stanford sailing earned three top-five finishes at three regattas this weekend in Maryland and Washington D.C.

The Cardinal placed third at the Navy Women’s Spring Intersectional and the St. Mary’s (Md.) Team Race, and finished fifth at the John Jackson Team Race.

Stanford claimed third-place results in division-A and division-B at the Navy Women’s Spring Intersectional. Sarah Mace, Samantha Steele and Michelle Catania competed in division-A, while Molly McKinney, Lily Katz and McKenzie Wilson raced in division-B.

The A team finished with 84 points behind nine top-10 finishes in 12 races, including two wins. The B team sailed to eight top-five placements and also recorded two victories.

The Cardinal had a great weekend at the St. Mary’s Team Race, posting a perfect 14-0 record. Stanford was represented by skippers Mateo Vargas, Kevin Laube and Oliver Toole, and crews Tally Buckstaff, Yuri Namikawa and Nicolette Obel.

Stanford finished fifth of eight teams with a 7-7 mark at the John Jackson Team Race in Washington, D.C. Scott Buckstaff, Reinier Eenkema Van Dijk and Axel Sly skippered the races, while Katie Walker, Yuki Yohsiyasu and John Cannistraro competed as crews.

The Cardinal will take an extended break before heading to the Aaron Szambecki Team Race and the Charleston Women’s on March 22-23.
