On to the Finals

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Stanford sailing finished fifth in the Sperry Women’s Semifinal on Wednesday, earning a spot in the national finals regatta.

The Cardinal registered 108 points across two divisions to place behind MIT (90), Rhode Island (90), Boston College (106) and Old Dominion (106). The top nine teams in the semifinal group advance to the finals which will take place Thursday and Friday.

Sarah Mace and Samantha Steel finished fifth in division-A, recording 60 points behind nine top-10 finishes in 10 races among a field of 14 teams. The duo compiled four top-five results, and finished strong with a second-place finish in the ninth race and a first-place result in the 10th race.

Molly McKinney, Maeve White, Yuri Namikawa and Michelle Catania combined for 48 points in division-B to place second. The quartet finished in the top 10 in all 10 races, including six top-five placements.

Stanford will compete for a national title in a field of 18 teams beginning Thursday. Results can be followed via collegesailing.org.
