Top of the Class

STANFORD, Calif. -- Cal Quantrill was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and seven Stanford players  earned All-Pac-12 honors, the conference announced Wednesday. Alex Blandino, Danny Diekroeger, John Hochstatter, Austin Slater and Quantrill were on the all-conference team, while Zach Hoffpauir and A.J. Vanegas earned honorable mention accolades.

Blandino and Diekroeger also represented Stanford on the All-Defensive Team.

Stanford placed its most members (5) on the all-conference squad since 2008.

Quantrill went 5-5 with a 2.92 ERA to become Stanford's third freshman of the year pick in the last five years, joining Kenny Diekroeger (2010) and Brian Ragira (2011). A Friday night starter for most of the season, Quantrill highlighted the Cardinal's freshman class that started 42 of 53 games. The Port Hope, Ontario native was 3-3 with a 2.49 ERA against Pac-12 teams. He was Stanford’s first freshman starter on opening day since Mike Mussina in 1988.
