All the Right Moves

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Friday was moving day for the Stanford women’s golf team.

The fourth-ranked Cardinal went from a tie for 11th to sixth place at the NCAA East Regional Championships, firing a 2-under 286 at the par-72 Southwood Golf Club for the second-best score in the second round.

Stanford is 11 shots outside of first-place Vanderbilt, and four shots in front of eighth-place Campbell. The top eight teams will earn a bid into the NCAA Championships (May 20-24).

The 56-hole tournament concludes Saturday.

Stanford received a 1-under from Mariah Stackhouse, who leads the 126-player field at 5-under through 36 holes. Stackhouse was tied for third after the opening round.

Stackhouse was 1-over through the first nine but rolled in back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12 to go to 1-under. Stackhouse secured the score with six straight pars.

Lauren Kim’s even-par 72 came with a 2-over on the front and 2-under on the back. Her back nine came with four birdies and a pair of bogeys. Kim, who is tied for 24th, had a stretch with a bogey and double-bogey midway through her front nine but went 2-under after that hiccup.

Casey Danielson’s 2-under 70 saw three birdies on the back nine. Danielson is tied for 15th.

Marissa Mar signed her card at 1-over 73, ending her round by chipping in for eagle to go to 1-under on her back nine. Mariko Tumangan shot 76.
