COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Stanford recorded its highest finish ever at the coed national regatta, placing fourth among 18 teams Friday at the Gill Coed Championship.

The Cardinal registered 260 points in 15 races across two divisions, finishing behind Yale (121), Georgetown (209) and Boston College (254).

Kieran Chung, Hans Henken and Haley Kirk sailed to a seventh-place finish in division-A with 137 points. The trio competed in six races on the second day of the finals competition and earned three top-10 finishes. The group began the day with a fourth-place result but faced adversity in the next three races, finishing 13th, 11th, and 17th, respectively.

Chung, Henken and Kirk concluded the regatta strong with back-to-back eighth-place finishes.

Kevin Laube and Yuri Namikawa competed in division-B for the second straight day, finishing the competition in fourth place with 123 points. The duo sailed in five races on day two of the finals regatta and earned two top-five results.

Laube and Namikawa opened the day with a fourth-place showing. The pair logged 13th and 11th-place finishes in the second and third races. They earned a victory in the fourth heat but ran into trouble in the final race when they placed 18th.

The fourth-place result at the Gill Coed Championship wraps up a successful week and a half of sailing for Stanford, which also finished 12th at the Sperry Top-Sider Women’s Nationals and third at the APS Team Race Championship. The end of the coed championship also marks the closing of the Cardinal’s 2013-14 season.
