STANFORD, Calif.- East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring Program (EPATT), is scheduled to host the inaugural EPATT Kids Cup Pro-Am Tennis Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The EPATT Kids Cup fundraiser is expected to raise $100,000 for EPATT to support its mission and extend its program to the Ravenswood City School District. The tournament is free and open to the public.

The tournament features world class tennis celebrities and former professional tennis players, including Tracy Austin and Brad Gilbert. Pros are assigned to 12 teams competing in a round-robin doubles tournament with the finals match scheduled for 1 PM. The tournament is free and open to the public.

“I am constantly humbled and amazed by the impact EPATT has achieved over the years, and we’re very excited to bring an on-site program to the Ravenswood City School District,” said Dave Higaki, EPATT Executive Director. “We’re wowed by the enthusiastic and generous support for Kids Cup by so many great tennis stars and the entire community – this tournament promises to be a lot of fun for everyone.”

Among the Stanford tennis stars, local tennis pros, entrepreneurs, tennis enthusiasts and EPATT kids scheduled to participate are: Taube Family Director of Men’s Tennis Paul Goldstein, James and Martha Poppy Associate Head Coach Brandon Coupe, Dan Goldie, Alex O’Brien, Jeff Salzenstein, Jonathan Stark and Jeff Tarango.

Since 1988, EPATT has been a game-changer for underserved kids. EPATT provides a unique extended learning day program. Housed on the Stanford University campus, sandwiched between world-class tennis courts, EPATT offers K-12 students a safe, caring environment in which to do their homework, be tutored, learn tennis, and share a healthy home-cooked meal. EPATT serves as a broad support system for youth by creating the scaffolding for academic success as well as a safety net. How has EPATT been so successful for more than 26 years? Parent participation is mandatory. Parents must attend meetings and workshops, communicate regularly with EPATT staff, and provide dinner and snack once a month.

Offering a unique blend of academic support, sports training, and parent coaching, EPATT’s after-school program serves students from 43 schools in school districts across San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Housed on the Stanford University campus, EPATT combines academics, tennis, field trips, college counseling, and parent coaching to achieve a 95% high school graduation rate, nearly three times the average East Palo Alto graduation rate.
