Farr Out!

LOS ANGELES – Stanford senior Hannah Farr’s first career goal gave the No. 3 Cardiinal a 1-0 victory over USC in Pac-12 women’s soccer action Sunday.

Farr knocked in a rebound of Chioma Ubogagu’s shot in the 24th minute to help Stanford (11-1-2 overall, 3-1-1) recover from a 2-1 loss to UCLA on Friday. Ubogagu took a left-footed shot from the top of the box that was deflected by goalkeeper Caroline Stanley into the path of Farr near the left corner of the six-yard box.

The goal was the first in soccer for Farr, a graduate of San Francisco’s St. Ignatius Prep, who has 87 goals as a Stanford lacrosse All-America. Farr started at left outside back as the Cardinal moved Andi Sullivan into central defense, Megan Turner to midfield, and freshman Mariah Lee to forward in her first start.

The Cardinal earned its 11th shutout of the season by shutting down the Pac-12’s highest-scoring team and outshooting the Women of Troy, 20-2. Goalkeeper Jane Campbell earned her ninth shutout of the season and the 15th of her career, only one behind Erica Holland (2004-07) for No. 7 on Stanford's all-time list.

Stanford held USC (8-4-2, 2-3-0) without a shot until the 66th minute, when a header by freshman Nicole Molen forced Campbell to make a diving save to her right to push the shot wide.

Stanford returns to action Thursday when it plays host to Colorado (10-4, 3-2) in a 6 p.m. match.
