ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Maverick McNealy and David Boote both finished under par to open action for the Stanford men’s golf team during the United States Collegiate Championship Friday at The Golf Club of Georgia.
McNealy, who is tied for second among individuals, posted a bogey-free 6-under 66, with each of his six birdies coming in a 10-hole stretch.
Boote was 2-over through 11 holes, responding with three birdies to close the back nine with a 71 at the par-72 track. Boote is tied for 17th.
Overall, Stanford posted a 5-under 283 and sits in fourth among the 15-team field. Virginia went off with a 16-under to lead the pack, trailed by Texas (-10) and Texas A&M (-7).
Viraat Badhwar used bookend birdies to sign off with a 1-over 73.
Franklin Huang was also 1-over and Jim Liu was 7-over.
Badhwar and Huang are tied for 31st.
