Stanford Cruises Past Pacific

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 3 Stanford extended its winning-streak to nine games Friday when it earned a convincing 3-1 victory at Pacific.

The Cardinal (15-1, 2-0 NorPac West) controlled a majority of the game, holding advantages over the Tigers (4-9, 1-1 NorPac) in shots (19-6) and penalty corners (4-0). Stanford has won 17 consecutive games against Pacific.

Alex McCalwey scored twice in the second half, while Katie Keyser tallied the fourth goal of her freshman campaign. Shannon Herold and Maddie Secco assisted McCawley’s goals, respectively.

McCawley (international relations) leads Stanford with 12 goals, while Secco picked up her team-leading seventh assist on the year. Secco (human biology) has at least one assist in six of her past seven games and her seven assists are a career best.

Stanford’s defense delivered another solid effort, limiting Pacific’s offensive opportunities by stepping up in plays to disrupt passes and create turnovers. Dulcie Davies (science, technology and society) made two saves to pick up her 15th win on the year. The Cardinal has held opponents to one or fewer goals in 15 of 16 games.

Keyser got Stanford on the board at 28:38 when she received the ball on the right side of the field in Pacific’s zone and aggressively made her way to goal. She delivered a hard shot just inside the circle that deflected off the goalkeeper’s leg and into the goal.

Stanford outshot Pacific 9-0 in the first half and Keyser’s goal helped the Cardinal take the momentum and lead into halftime.

McCawley capitalized on the momentum, scoring 43 seconds into the second half on a rebound opportunity.

Pacific closed the deficit to 2-1 in the 49th minute when Cristina Castella sent a hard pass into the circle that Nicole Laskosky was able to redirect past Davies into the goal.

McCawley provided some breathing room for the Cardinal less than four minutes later, when she scored her second on the day at 52:02 to extend Stanford’s lead to 3-1.

The Cardinal will have a week until its next game when it plays host to California at 2 p.m. (PT) on Friday at the Varsity Turf. The game against the Golden Bears will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
