SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Stanford placed a pair of women’s golfers in the top five through 18 holes Tuesday at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational hosted by Washington at the par-72 Sahalee Country Club.
Mariah Stackhouse, the event’s defending champion, and Casey Danielson shot identical rounds of even-par 72, tying both for fifth place among individuals.
Danielson’s round included five birdies, with Stackhouse adding a trio. Stackhouse was 2-over through four holes, battling back with birdies on 13 and 18 to close her day.
Stanford posted a collective 8-over 296 in the opening round. The event concludes with 18 holes on Wednesday. Washington (-3) leads the 12-team field with Gonzaga (+6) standing in second. Stanford will look to make up ground to put itself in contention for a consecutive win at the tournament.
Shannon Aubert (+4) is tied for 30th along with Lauren Kim (+4). Quirine Eijkenboom (+5) is tied for 40th and Calli Ringsby (+9) is tied for 55th.
The Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational is named for Washington’s legendary coach that started the program.
