Boote and Badhwar Battling

SAN MARTIN, Calif. – David Boote and Viraat Badhwar both finished in the red at the Gifford Collegiate Championship to lead the Stanford men’s golf team to a fifth-place showing Monday. The 54-hole event resumes at the par-71 CordeValle Country Club on Tuesday morning with live results available at GoStanford.com.

Stanford (+7) is two shots behind fourth-place Northwestern (+5) and third-place Texas (+4). USC leads the 10-team field at 2-under with UCLA second at even-par.

Boote’s only bogey came on the 230-yard, par-3 12th, but he finished on a high note with birdies on three of his last four holes.

Boote is tied for fourth among individuals at 3-under after his 68.

Badhwar was 1-over through five, and back-to-back birdies on eight and nine put him at 1-under going into the turn. He bogeyed 12 while dropping birdies on two of the next four to finish with a 2-under 69 and a share of seventh.

Franklin Huang (+2) had three birdies during his round of 73, Maverick McNealy (+4) saved his only birdie for 17 and Patrick Grimes (+6) was 1-over on the back while carding a 77.

Bradley Knox was 8-over.

Exceptional rounds were produced by Dominick Francks (+2) and Jeffrey Swegle (+3), who are competing as individuals at the event.
